However, I can confidently say that choosing to stay here is a decision you will absolutely not regret. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Hokkaido. Convenient Shuttle Service The hotel offers a shuttle bus from Sapporo to the hotel entrance. A quick tip: make sure to register for it on their official website (the English interface works perfectly). You'll receive a confirmation email within 3 days. The bus from Sapporo is shared with guests from other hotels, but as the only guest heading to BOUROU, I was incredibly lucky—the moment I stepped off the bus, the BOUROU staff was already there waiting to seamlessly escort me to the hotel. Exquisite Design & In-Room Check-In The sense of refinement begins the second the front doors open; even the entrance corridor is so beautiful that it made me stop and simply admire it. Check-in is done directly in your room, a very thoughtful touch that saves you from standing at a front desk. The staff's English is excellent, so communication is completely effortless. Unparalleled Room & Views The view from the room is simply unmatched. You get a perfect, panoramic view of Lake Toya and Nakajima Island. Even better, you can soak in your private in-room onsen while taking in the magnificent lake scenery. At night, the room becomes the ultimate front-row seat for the fireworks display. It was pure bliss. Exceptional Dining Experience I stayed for two nights and had four meals in total. Interestingly, I was seated at the exact same table for every single meal. I believe this was intentionally and thoughtfully arranged, ensuring I always had a spectacular lake view while dining. The ingredients deeply highlight Hokkaido’s local produce, and the menus for both days were completely different, ensuring consecutive-night guests never eat the same dish twice. The absolute highlight was the venison, which was actually hunted by the hotel's renowned Executive Chef himself! He even came out during dinner to explain the dish personally, which was incredibly impressive. Relaxing Lounge Bar The lounge bar on the lowest floor is a must-visit. If you somehow still have room after the massive dinners, you can head down for complimentary alcoholic drinks, tea, coffee, and a selection of snacks including cakes, cookies, and fresh fruits. Ultimate Exclusivity & Top-Tier Service Because it's a boutique hotel with fewer rooms, the service feels incredibly personalized. The staff seemingly knew who I was throughout my 3-day stay. They proactively provided weather updates and great itinerary recommendations (though they jokingly—and rightfully—suggested the best itinerary is just staying in the hotel!). A special thanks to the staff member who actively helped me arrange a taxi to JR Toya Station for my onward journey; the pricing was completely transparent and exactly as quoted. The attention to detail is impeccable—they always press the elevator button for you and bow until the doors completely close, which almost made me feel shy! Conclusion: The overall sense of exclusivity here is incredibly strong. More than once, I found myself sipping champagne in my room or relaxing in the lounge (while it rained), watching tourists outside standing by the lake waiting for fireworks or just gazing at the hotel. In Japan, you often find hotels that have great views but lack service, or vice versa. BOUROU LAKE TOYA perfectly masters both. Izutani was great and helped us from check in to when we boarded the shuttle to the airport after our 1 night stay. The included dinner and breakfast was amazing, one of our courses included a delicious venison that the head chef hunted himself. The view from the room is unparalleled and was a great vantage point for the evening fireworks show over the lake. We booked a room with an in-room private onsen which we took use of whenever we were back at the room- would highly recommend. All of the staff spoke great english which was much appreciated as well. As we were traveling with our baby, we had quite a bit of luggage and were a little concerned about getting everything to our room. The staff kindly prepared a cart for us, making the check-in process wonderfully smooth. We especially appreciated being able to complete the check-in in the privacy and comfort of our room, which made the arrival feel calm and effortless. To reach the front desk, you walk through a long, narrow entrance. At the end, Lake Toya and Nakajima Island suddenly come into view, creating a scene that looks almost like a painting. It was the first time I had ever experienced an entrance that made me want to walk through it again and again simply to enjoy the view. With only a limited number of guest rooms, there was very little interaction with other guests. This allowed us to truly cherish our private time and made the stay feel exceptionally peaceful and intimate. There are so many wonderful details in the room, but the highlight has to be the breathtaking view of Lake Toya from the private terrace and the open-air hot spring. The lake glowing beneath the sunset, the star-filled sky after dark, and Nakajima Island and the surrounding mountains at sunrise—every moment of the day offers a view worth taking the time to admire. The view from the rooftop terrace is also something you absolutely should not miss. From our room on the 9th floor, we were also able to enjoy the famous Lake Toya Long-Run Fireworks Festival from remarkably close range, which was one of the experiences we had been looking forward to. Watching the powerful fireworks while also appreciating their elegant and fleeting trails of light was unforgettable. BOUROU LAKE TOYA is truly an exceptional place from which to experience them. The dining experience was another highlight. Dinner was a private French dining experience, while breakfast was a beautifully prepared Japanese-Western style plate served on the terrace. Every dish reflected the chef’s dedication and attention to detail. The meat, vegetables, natto, and even the salt were carefully prepared by the chef, and everything was delicious. For guests who appreciate the thought and craftsmanship that go into every dish, the dining experience here is sure to be a perfect match. The lounge is another charming part of the hotel. It is an inviting space to relax, offering Hokkaido-inspired sweets and savory snacks, a selection of drinks including alcoholic beverages, and French press coffee. The extensive use of wood throughout the space gives it a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Each table has its own unique character, and choosing a different favorite spot each time you visit would be part of the fun. Above all, the staff took such thoughtful care of us throughout our stay that we always felt comfortable and well looked after. Their quick and helpful responses immediately made us feel valued. Having stayed at their Hakodate property years ago, our expectations were high—and this stay exceeded them. Our western-style room featured a private hot spring and a warm, inviting design. The complimentary mini-bar was generously stocked with a great selection of drinks. A major highlight was watching the evening fireworks directly from our private terrace—an unforgettable experience. Dinners were decent western-style courses. We had initially assumed the menu might repeat on the second night, but we were pleasantly surprised with entirely different, specially curated sets for both dinner and breakfast. The staff spoke fluent English and presented every dish with care. Lake Toya is a peaceful, beautiful destination to unwind.
